Moldova failed to make it into the 2014 FIFA World Cup as they were located at the bottom of the group H qualifications group having only picked up 11 points, it wasn’t enough for them to earn a ticket and get to Brazil.
Even with a 5-2 triumph over Montenegro, Moldova needed a lot more points in order for the team of Ion Caras to qualify in the 2014 edition of the FIFA World Cup. They did manage to conclude the qualifications journey by playing what is regarded to be by many Moldovan supporters as the greatest football game ever played by the Moldovan national team.
From there on out Moldova has played a number of international matches as they have to prepare themselves for their next tournament which will be the 2016 UEFA Euro’s where they have been placed in Group G along with Austria, Montenegro, Liechtenstein, Russia and Sweden.
Moldova faced off against 7 different nations in international friendly matches as they went on securing triumphs over: Andorra and Saudi Arabia but lost against: Sweden, Poland and more recently Cameroon.
The loss against Cameroon was a big hit for Moldova considering the fact that their African opponents were missing out from some of their star players such as: Samuel Eto’ o and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, both of them were rested as the head coach did not want to take a risk when they played their last warm-up match before the start of their 2014 World Cup journey.
Even without some of the standout players of Cameroon they still managed on coming out on top with a 1-0 triumph with a lonely goal from Edgar Salli.
The first qualification match of Moldova for the 2016 Euro’s will be against Montenegro which is scheduled to be played on September 8 at the Podgorica Stadium.
Supporters of Moldova are hoping that the nation can kick-off their 2016 Euro’s with a victory over Montenegro as this can boost the morale of the squad and propel them on qualifying into the next stages of the international tournament.
