Diego Milito has spoken about his former coach José Mourinho as the Portuguese prepares to renew his rivalry with Pep Guardiola.
The two shared an intense rivalry during the days in Spain when Barcelona was under the regime of Guardiola and Mourinho challenged their supremacy with his Real Madrid team. Even though Guardiola came out on top on more than one occasion, Mourinho is widely regarded as the only manager who can get the best out of his team against a Guardiola managed outfit. But managers are in Manchester with Mourinho taking charge of United and Guardiola being in charge of City.
Milito knows everything about playing for Mourinho as he spent one season with the Portuguese at Inter Milan. This was a highly successful period for the club as they won the treble including the Champions League. Milito says that one of the reasons why Mourinho takes on all of the opposition with controversial statements is to take the attention away from his players. The Portuguese boss wants his players to only concentrate on the game. Milito was one of the average forwards when he had joined Inter Milan, but he was a huge reason behind that successful campaign. The striker scored 30 goals in 52 appearances and has never hit those heights again.
"Sometimes he invents on purpose. Guardiola included. Just go and ask Pep. He knows how to protect his team and always needs an enemy to be able to attack or defend his squad. Mourinho is a great leader of groups. We are talking about a coach of the highest level in the world. He makes sure that every player gives 100 percent, has the right word at the right moment and can be punishing when necessary," said Milito to the Italian tabloids about his former coach Mourinho.
