A former Napoli Director of Football Pierpaolo Marino has made several revelations about his time at the San Paolo. At the La Marsa International Football Transfer Meeting, Marino claimed he spotted numerous football talents in his career.
At Napoli, he takes the credit for Fabrizio Ravanelli, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik. Hamsik has been phenomenal at Napoli through the years, now has the most goals in the history of the club.
Marino added that he almost signed Inter Milan legend Diego Milito but that the deal collapsed “due to a waiter.” He said he was discussing the possibility of the deal but that a waiter stole the knowledge during a meeting and told one of his relatives – a journalist who published the story, forcing Genoa to hasten his signature.
The former director added that Polish star Robert Lewandowski and Real Madrid star Luka Modric were close to moving to the Serie A to feature for Napoli. He said the regulations in the Serie B regarding non-EU players killed the moves.
Napoli has progressed in the following years, battling with Juventus for the Serie A title. This term they are on fire as they really want to topple the serial champions. Their 3-0 win over Cagliari made them the first team in the league to win their first seven games in the season, netting at least 25 goals.
It has been a goal galore for Napoli as they seek more than their third place finish last season. Maurizio Sarri and the team are keen on making a strong statement this season and there is no better way to start.
