Former Inter Milan striker Diego Milito says that the club have made a major mistake in parting company with Frank de Boer after just under three months in charge.
The former Ajax manager was appointed as the club’s new head coach only in the summer. It was always going to be a difficult task for the Dutchman to satisfy the club’s new owners, who have come in with lofty ambitions. However, there is a lot of restructuring work still left after the club have been unable to even qualify for the Champions League in the last few years.
Most managers would not rule out the possibility of a complete overhaul in terms of the squad, but Frank de Boer managed to carry on with the existing squad with only a few changes. Milito, who was part of the Inter team that won the Champions League in 2010, says that the club may have been a little quick in getting rid of the manager since less than three months is not a lot of time to show quality
Former Inter hero Wesley Sneijder is also of a similar opinion, as he believes that the Italian Serie A outfit should have given the manager more time. De Boer has been replaced by former Lazio was Stefano Pioli.
“He [De Boer] is a good person and a manager with winning ideas. He could have given the club a new mentality, he needed more time and I’m sure he would have snatched good results. I hope Inter can finish third, but it’s just too early to talk about it now. I respect Montella, but I don’t know whether AC Milan are the favourites or not. Derbies can subvert predictions. Inter’s squad is better than AC Milan’s but the rossoneri are a true team,” said Milito.
